Community Outreach & Mobile Clinic

Presently the Sandton and Eastern Metro SPCA is the only animal welfare organization providing veterinary services to the animals in Alexandra township. We provide primary health care, for example sterilizations, deworming and vaccinations, to residents of Alexandra township who are unable to afford private veterinary services for their animals.  We offer these services from the clinic at our premises in Marlboro.  Using our Mobile Clinic, we also offer regular clinics in the communities we support, offering veterinary care and promoting the vaccination and sterilization of animals.

Our Mobile Clinic

The Mobile Clinic was launched in February 2010. This is a Nissan Interstar Panel Van which has been converted into a state of the art mobile clinic for animals and was kindly donated by Mr Alan Friedland. The clinic has holding pens, an onboard refrigerator to house sensitive medication. There are examination counters and storage areas for all the equipment needed to provide basic veterinary care.

The key objectives of our mobile community outreach programme are:

  • To offer animal services and education to the underprivileged who have no means of transport.
  • To provide mobile and qualified education to the underprivileged in our areas on animal welfare.
  • To provide a mobile clinic and animal services to the community in our area not able to afford it.

The focus of our mobile clinic is on the less privileged areas in our jurisdiction, mainly Alexandra and the southern border of the southern eastern metropolitan, including Bertrams, Malvern and Bez Valley. Pet owners from these areas can bring their pets to be vaccinated, de-wormed and dipped to designated points in their community. Importantly, the staff provides education to the public on how to care for their dogs and cats through verbal communication and printed handouts. The Sandton and Eastern Metro SPCA is committed to curbing the problem of unwanted animals and through the mobile clinic we encourage people to sterilize their animals before unplanned litters occur.

Through our mobile clinic we are able to perform much needed services to the underprivileged communities in our area. This service is costly, and a big drain on our resources. If you would like to support or contribute towards this initiative please click here to make a donation.

There are also corporate sponsorship opportunities for our Mobile Clinic.  Please contact Candice Scorer, General Manager. Tel: 011 444 7730 or  email for more information.
